Brian Austen

Also known as

  • El Briarno

Brian Austen's journey in the circus industry began with his apprenticeship at the Count Lazard’s Anglo-American Circus. His skills in wire walking, bare back riding, lion taming, and knife-throwing led him to perform as El Briarno. After joining James Brothers’ Circus, Austen met Gerry Cottle, and together they formed Embassy Circus in 1970. The circus quickly gained popularity, and by the mid-1970s, it had become Britain's most successful circus in the south of England. Austen's role as Tent Master and Transport Manager was pivotal in the circus's success, and he played a significant part in the circus's growth and recognition.
